Hydro Plant Renovation, Mizoram

The Umiam-Umtru Stage III Hydroelectric Power Plant (HEPP) in Meghalaya is undergoing an extensive Renovation, Modernization, and Upgradation project. Financed through a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), this project covers a wide array of tasks including basic design, project cost estimation, implementation structure, operation and maintenance (O&M) framework, and necessary surveys for evaluating the effectiveness of Japanese ODA loans.

The project features the detailed design, construction supervision, design review, and project management for the hydroelectric plant's construction. This involves the procurement, installation, and commissioning of electromechanical and hydromechanical equipment, as well as extensive underground works such as tunnels. The dams involved are the 30-meter Kyredemkulai Dam (Concrete Gravity) and the 47-meter Nongmahir Dam (Earthfill). We serve as the Design and Supervision Consultant for this transformative project, contributing to its successful execution and the advancement of sustainable infrastructure in Meghalaya.

Beyond technical development, the project emphasizes technology transfer and capacity building to ensure sustainable development. An Environmental Management Plan (EMP) has been established, setting out an environmental monitoring program to identify and mitigate significant impacts on the physical, biological, and social environment. This comprehensive plan ensures that all adverse effects are properly addressed.
With this project we aim to contribute to its successful execution and the advancement of sustainable infrastructure in Meghalaya.
